A WestJet plane operating from Toronto made a “hard landing” at an airport in the Caribbean country of St. Maarten, the airline said on Sunday.
The airline said all passengers and crew were evacuated from WestJet flight 2276 after the plane arrived at Princess Juliana International Airport. The landing activated the plane’s slides and emergency responders deployed foam as a precaution.
WestJet said there were no reported injuries.
“At this time, we are awaiting confirmation on the exact nature of the incident,” WestJet said in a statement, noting it is co-operating with local authorities.
“Our teams are focused on supporting our guests and crew, ensuring their safety and care remain our highest priority.”
The airport said on social media that there were 164 passengers on board. It said the plane did not catch on fire and confirmed there were no injuries, but noted that three people were “taken for medical evaluation” as a precaution.
